Yes, triskaidekaphobia was on the list--the ACSI Spelling Bee list, that is! On Monday, November 7, 2011, 18 students from Calvary and Blue Mountain Campuses traveled to Pottstown to participate in this year's spell-off. Thank you to the following spellers and alternates for their commitment to study and the courage to participate: Grade 5 Aaron Smith, Aaron Joel Smith, Alyssa Pye, Haley Althouse, Alexandria Fritzinger, Courtney Trumbore; Grade 6 Julia Bond, Amy DePretis, Gabby Alves, Seth Althouse, Emily Ziegenfuss, Paige Cuenca; Grade 7 Ben Herrman, Hannah Wintermute, Victoria Predmore; Grade 8 Shay Dewey, Jennifer Wintermute, Rachelle Mikhaiel. After an intense morning grade-level spell-off, BCS had four finishers in the final 16 for the combined bee: Aaron Smith, Aaron Joel Smith, Amy DePretis, and Ben Herrman. The drama continued in the afternoon bee. After a lengthy, back-and-forth, nail-biting spell-off, Amy DePretis won first place. She moves on to represent BCS in the regional bee in Lancaster in February. Stupendous work, Amy! Congratulations to all!
